The Lyric Festival is devoted to Gioachino Rossini. The Rossini Opera Festival is one of the world’s most important opera festivals equivalent in importance with the opera festivals of Salzburg and Bayreuth. This event was created to spread the culture and music of Rossini.
The festival is an exciting journey performers and audiences undertake together, year after year. It showcases the genius of Rossini with performances, as part of their training, from new professionals. Each member of the audience is already a supporter of the festival but may further help preserve and enhance the magic of the Festival by becoming ‘friend of the festival’ while also enjoying the exclusive privileges as a friend.
The Rossini Opera Festival is an autonomous body which promotes the homonymous international opera festival entirely dedicated to Gioachino Rossini. The principal aims are the restoration and preservation of the theatre and musical heritage of both Rossini. Further, the body promotes the study of Rossini’s music and the music connected to the composer. The Conservatory of Music and the Rossini Foundation was formed after the death of Rossini when Rossini left of all his wealth and music the municipality of Pesaro.
The Rossini Opera Festival was created in 1980, again by the Municipality of Pesaro, with the intention of supporting emerging talent through theatrical performance. The Rossini Foundation was created to form a unique centre to study applied musicology. The foundations’ work is also recovering his music and publishing and performing this work.
